Raid1 with kernel 2.4.10

Hello,

I have upgraded my machine to new kernel 2.4.10 and compiled with option raid1. I have two scsi hard drives. sda1 and sdb1. everything is installed on sda1. Afterward I partioned sdb1 and mounted manually. Now I notice that two disks are exactly same size not matter what I do to change the size of sda1. Does this mean that I have raid1 running !!! I did compile the new kernel for this ...
I do
df -k
Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 8325256 2286860 5615488 29% /
/dev/sdb1 8325256 2286860 5615488 29%

I do
df -k /dev/md0
Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/md0 8325256 2286860 5615488 29%

This looks like raid1 is running

Is this possible !!! I did not have to install any raidtools or anything..

One problem though..
When I reboot,
I lose sdb1 and it gets fsked due to rebooting without umounting...

Can you guys help me with this,
My objectives is to do raid 1

Thanks..

Here's a way to check it

[root@alpha /root]# cat /etc/raidtab
raiddev /dev/md0
raid-level 1
nr-raid-disks 2
chunk-size 64k
persistent-superblock 1
#nr-spare-disks 0
device /dev/hda1
raid-disk 0
device /dev/hdb1
raid-disk 1
raiddev /dev/md1
raid-level 1
nr-raid-disks 2
chunk-size 64k
persistent-superblock 1
#nr-spare-disks 0
device /dev/hda5
raid-disk 0
device /dev/hdb5
raid-disk 1

Also you should see something about the partition being a mirror in dmesg after boot.

I would put mine here but I have not rebooted for quite a while.
