RAID autodetect not working

I'm trying to get my kernel (2.4.20) to autodetect a RAID array (RAID 0), without success. I have two 40GB IDE drives in the array, sitting on an Abit KT7A-RAID board (HPT70 chipset).

I've followed the steps in the Software-RAID-HOWTO for autodetection:

http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Software-R...-4.html#ss4.10

without success. I have RAID 0 and RAID 1 compiled into the kernel. I also set up the partitions on the RAID disks so that each disk has a single primary partition which is the size of the entire disk.

Here is a dump from cfdisk:

Partition Table for /dev/hde

---Starting--- ----Ending---- Start Number of
# Flags Head Sect Cyl ID Head Sect Cyl Sector Sectors
-- ----- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- -------- ---------
1 0x80 1 1 0 0xFD 254 63 1023 63 78156162
2 0x00 0 0 0 0x00 0 0 0 0 0
3 0x00 0 0 0 0x00 0 0 0 0 0
4 0x00 0 0 0 0x00 0 0 0 0 0

Partition Table for /dev/hdg

---Starting--- ----Ending---- Start Number of
# Flags Head Sect Cyl ID Head Sect Cyl Sector Sectors
-- ----- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- -------- ---------
1 0x80 1 1 0 0xFD 15 63 1023 63 78165297
2 0x00 0 0 0 0x00 0 0 0 0 0
3 0x00 0 0 0 0x00 0 0 0 0 0
4 0x00 0 0 0 0x00 0 0 0 0 0

Here is my /etc/raidtab:

raiddev /dev/md0
raid-level 0
nr-raid-disks 2
persistent-superblock 1
chunk-size 32
device /dev/hde
raid-disk 0
device /dev/hdg
raid-disk 1

And here's what I am seeing in the kernel log (edited for simplicity):

kernel: md: Autodetecting RAID arrays. kernel: [events: 00000000]
kernel: md: invalid raid superblock magic on hde1 kernel: md: hde1 has invalid sb, not importing! kernel: md: could not import hde1! kernel: [events: 00000000]
kernel: md: invalid raid superblock magic on hdg1 kernel: md: hdg1 has invalid sb, not importing! kernel: md: could not import hdg1! kernel: md: autorun ...
kernel: md: ... autorun DONE.

Any help would be appreciated!!!!

Here's the kernel log again, a bit cleaner:

kernel: md: Autodetecting RAID arrays.
kernel: [events: 00000000]
kernel: md: invalid raid superblock magic on hde1
kernel: md: hde1 has invalid sb, not importing!
kernel: md: could not import hde1!
kernel: [events: 00000000]
kernel: md: invalid raid superblock magic on hdg1
kernel: md: hdg1 has invalid sb, not importing!
kernel: md: could not import hdg1!
kernel: md: autorun ...
kernel: md: ... autorun DONE.

Hi gbbenson

I am facing the similar promblem, with Promise Fast track 20267 raid controller. I had configured according to given instruction on the Readme file of intel S845WD-1. But the difference is that I have installed Redhat 9 and the driver belongs to redhat 7.2
The drives are invisible and i can't locate them.
Please if you have any solution, may be you had find during your research, I am looking for your help.

Thank you
