Ubuntu and Suse make it easy

do you want to use the whole disks?
delete all partitions on the disks
on the first disk
create a new partition select do not format
and select type
Linu RAID

repeat for second disk

Last step there is a button create RAID
choose RAID 1
and you two Linux RAID disk will be there
choose the disks you want added

and then choose a file system
ext3 is best
