radeon 9500 pro under redhat 9 ?!?
Hello,
I got a problem with the ati's driver installation (fglrx-glc22-4.3.0-3.2.8.i586 ). I do all what they said in the readme, i compiled my own kernel module and loaded it, and i chnage the driver in my XF86Config-4 file (yes, i change the good driver :-D)
I got that in the logs :
Quote:
(WW) fglrx(0): ***********************************************
(WW) fglrx(0): * DRI initialization failed! *
(WW) fglrx(0): * (maybe driver kernel module missing or bad) *
(WW) fglrx(0): * 2D acceleraton available (MMIO) *
(WW) fglrx(0): * no 3D acceleration available *
|
But when i compiled the kernel module, i didn't get any error ...
Any idea ?
thanks

What exactly is wrong here? I'm lost as to what you're trying to fix. Do a lsmod and see if the kernel module is inserted, if not, go find the module and insert it. The Radeon 9700 drivers worked perfectly with RH9 for me...

fat chance re you gonna get that to work
ati are windows only type people. They sometimes do a little for apple, but no way linux. Invest in an nVidia, they last longer and the software is nicer anyway.
you may be able to get some drivers written by someone else for 3d but they are not gareenteed coz they aint written by ati themselves.
do a search at www.google.com/linux

Sounds like you manually edited XF86Config. Probably what's wrong because there is a tool that comes with the drivers called fglrxconfig and you should probably try running that to configure X, then you should have your 3D acceleration.

I tried to run it, but it didn't work...
So, i tried to edit manually my X config file...
Could somebody who installed the drivers succesfully describe how he did it ?

I did sucessfully install under RedHat 9 for the Radeon 9700. It's the same package that you download. I downloaded it. I ran it. I ran fglrxconfig. I restarted. It worked. So the question is, what did you change with your RedHat 9? When I did it it was the standard, fresh install RH9. So I don't know what you did wrong. Which package did you download? Can you give us the an error message or something?

PS, try running fglrxinfo, fglrxgears. ATI provides their own version of these packages.
