I know that the XFree86 versioni 4.1 supprots ATI new card, the Radeon, but does it support dual displays on it, or is that really a configuration change in the XFree files that allows that, as long as the hardware is supported?
Also, what about the new Radeon 8500, with 64MB of DDR and dual display goodness?
Unfortunately, if you've been floating around (i'm guessing you're talking about the radeon ve card...i'm tired so i don't know right now)...there's only 1 driver i know of for dual display on the radeon chips and that's accelerated-X. It use to be that you could d/l a copy and then enter a serial number, but now you have to actually try it then pay them fully for the drivers ($99 instead of www.google.com). ITs a rip b/c it basically means its a closed project so no one can advance the drivers at all...that and from what i've read it only supports dual display for 1 digital monitor and 1 crt (can't use the converter...so someone told me, i could be wrong). either way, hopefully xfree 4.2 will support it if you can wait till mid-november 2001. if you get a hold of a copy of it, email me. i'd like to try it out w/a real copy (not the stupid demo they have). you'll understand if you go to their site. www.xig.com. i've heard bad things about tech support from them.
doesn't xinerama support multiple displays? i don't think the project is quite finished yet, but i'm pretty sure it's functional, and it's open source.
i mean radeon ve specific drivers...if they wrote one, god bless them and direct me towards a d/l (if anyone knows for sure it works), otherwise, i really don't know. right now xfree 4.1. is bein a pain for me w/my radeon ve. i take the 4.0.3 rh 7.1 binary install, don't run anything, copy a backup and the ndo an rpm install of 4.1 and then don't run Xfree86 -configure (b/c i get an error anyways) and it boots fine for me (go figure).
if anyone knows a fix to that i'd be glad to hear it.
