Quick Q on LDAP and user authentication

Hello everyone.

I just have a quick question on LDAP and user authentication.

From what I have read, and I may be wrong, but if I want to setup a LDAP server for user authentication, I will need to setup Samba as a PDC on the same server that will be running LDAP for authentication.

Is that correct?

Just want to make sure before I make a huge blunder.

no, you don't need samba. You need to reconfigure PAM to use LDAP rather than a local passwd file.

Don't know how difficult that is though, never done it.

Fair enough.

Reason I asked is that I have seen a lot of articles on how to configure LDAP for authentication, but Samba must be set as a PDC.

Ok...what I need know is to find out how to use LDAP for authentication with PAM.

Anyone know of some decent links?
