Question questions about commands


Hi !

does some one knows what is the diffarence between kill and pkill
also what is the diffarence between init 1 and init S.

pkill will lookup by a processes name.
kill is just a normal kill of a process usually by pid.
Its all in the man pages.

init runlevels are just going to basically load different services at startup. Usually there isn't much difference in init 1 and s or S. The s stands for single user mode.

If your unsure, try taking a peek at your startup scripts and compare your single user to your runlevel 1 scripts.
