Question(s) about bits per pixel

What's the highest bpp mode?
"xorgconfig" says 24-bit is the highest one.
But it seems that I have 32-bit picture.
I don't undestand why "xorgconfig" offers only 24-bit then.

Can anybody explain all this a bit clearer?

Thanks.

There is 32 bit per pixel support but most don't even bother, the human eye can't even make out anything really higher than 16bpp in most cases. The only time 24bpp or higher will come in handy most likely is when your playing very intensive 3D type games and or editing/viewing very intensive graphics, etc.

Thanks, trickykid.

Actually, I wonder why doesn't "xorgconfig" offer 32-bit option.

Thanks.

Hi.

24 and 32 bpp are the same. The missing 8 bits are used (or more usually, not used) for transparency.
