question about VCD playback on DSL

I'm considering getting an IBM Thinkpad 600 with a PII 300MHz, 192MB of ram, and an onboard 2MB video adapter. I'd be putting DSL on it, and would like to know if playing a VCD with Xine or Mplayer is viable. I don't have high hopes of getting video acceleration with the 2MB card, but I'm not sure. It might just be the CPU decoding the video, if so is 300MHz enough for NTSC VCD playback? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Choppy

The video would be choppy at best played via the cd. If you copy it to the hard disk it will play nice but otherwise no.
