question about shell


how do i find out which shell am i currently using?

and how do i configure my default shell?

Use the finger command...

finger <username>

chsh or you can edit your /etc/passwd file but make sure if you edit by hand to have the shell your switching to is installed.

Usually you can view /etc/shells to see what was installed initially with the distro.

Sorry about that, just checked email. I moved servers and forgot to backup my docs directory. I'll see what I can't do to find that file cause I believe I backed up at an earlier time and elsewhere, so I'll have to dig for it.

Try the link now, I found it on my spare hard drive I removed from my old server in which I didn't reformat yet to use in another machine..
Whew.. !! Got to love how you can pop a hard drive in a Linux box, mount and copy files over on the fly..
