question about identd

how do I get rid of the ~ on the user name on irc. I believe it is identd, but I'm not sure wether I need to run identd on my system or what? my system is slack 8.1 with 2.4.18

If I understand you correctly, can't you just change your nick with the /nick <new nick> command ? Or are you referring to when you first login, it states your username@host-domain-info ??
