Question about erasing XP partition

Here's my deal right now. I've got XP and Ubuntu partitions on my laptop. In a few months, I'm going to be ready to erase XP. I figure by then I'll be able to use my iPod with Ubuntu and some other things I don't know how to do right now. Besides, I have to keep XP for a while longer for work purposes.

My question is this. If I boot up into XP and use Partition Magic to erase XP, is this possible without screwing up my Ubuntu partition? Can I format the whole XP partition and give it to an existing Linux partition? I would really rather not reformat and start all over in Ubuntu.
