Question about CentOS 4 ISO files and installation...
Hi I am hoping to get CentOS 4 set up on my server box. I went to CentOS.org and downloaded the required 4 ISO files.
It has been a while but if I remember correctly I cannot just burn ISO files onto a disk and install???
Also I downloaded these ISO's onto a Windows XP machine (since i don't have a linux box) and I am wondering how to proceed to get these files onto disk so it will be bootable from CDROM on my server box?
I am assuming it can't be as easy as burning these ISO's onto some disks and loading in Disk1??
TIA

if you have nero or some kind of CD burning software you can burn the .iso to a working installable CD, that is what the .iso is for.
IIRC in nero you have to burn an image (tell it you are wanting to burn an image) and it will see the .iso file and go from there.
with EZCDcreator you just double click it and it should burn the CD for you.

What do you mean by 'a working installable CD'? Do you just mean a CD?
Thanks.

no a CD would just contain the exact same file format you have now. a bootable CD will have the information taken out of the .iso format and configured so when your computer boots with the BIOS set to boot from CDRom it will read the CD and start the install proccess for you.

So if I burn the CD as an ISO image will the system be bootable or is there some other step required?
Thanks again.

that is for DVDs not for CDs.. also winDVD is for playing DVDs not burning CDs.
you need something like Nero, or EZCDcreator to burn the CD.
i sujest downloading the trial vs of nero, installing it, then get back and i will see if i can help you burn your CDs.

I have burned CDs with this laptop... maybe there is some proprietary software that was included with this laptop to do it... anyways I will download the trial version of Nero and get back to you...
Thanks for your time!
