Sorry, that's pretty much 0 for 2 on your last 2 questions...

I'd open up a mixer and see if the mic is on. What program are you using to record it, or is this something else? Is your mic plugged in? And is it plugged into the mic port?

Cool

Henry 02-01-2003 08:19 PM

yes yes yes... i think the plug with the microphone on it is the mic plug :) and my mic work, then i set record source to microphone, and turn as loud as it can, but nothing can be recorded, then when i switch to cd and play music from cd, it received sound....oh and i use krec.... it is really weird

MasterC 02-01-2003 08:24 PM

Sorry, but I don't have krec installed. However, try something else. Something like grecord. Check to make sure it's not a problem with your program, do this by trying other programs when available.

I'd also switch window managers/desktop environments to make sure it's not a problem with something from there either.

Cool

i tried krecord... the same thing, i even open my comp but i 4got the plug hole is directly to motherboard :-P, lol, stupid me, and wut do u mean by switching manager/desktop?

bulliver 02-01-2003 11:59 PM

open up kmix and check the level of your mic. By default it is completely muted...If you can't find it in the kmenu (multimedia) then just type 'kmix' on the command line.

I mean to try something like fluxbox, Gnome, blackbox, xfce... Something other than the one you are using (assuming KDE from the programs you are using). And try a non-KDE program not krec or krecord, but rather grecord or Voice App

Cool

Henry 02-02-2003 12:27 PM

thanks i'll tri voice apps cuz under linux i have 2 make another user to use like gnome and stuff, oh, i was trying 2 install a new driver 4 my soundcard alsa one, and when i installed the new one, everything broke, like i can't get into kde it frooze, then i can't do like installpkg or can't do anything in pkgtool then i changed it back to my old driver rc2 and now it work. only my /dev/mixer is pointed @ /dev/mixer0 so do u guyz know the command to renew the device? i 4got it and i can't find it on the web cuz i dunno the command

MasterC 02-02-2003 12:32 PM

You just recreate the symlink if that's what you are asking:
OHHH, you mean to recreate /dev/mixer well, I personally suck at mknod, I tend to suggest using MAKEDEV to recreate devices. Look for it on your slack CD.

Cool

Henry 02-02-2003 12:35 PM

YES thatz wut i wantm mknod... thank! but i never tried makedev b4 so i dunno wut that is.. i'll look it ^ thanks! need to put that into my file with the commands that i need 2 memerize

Henry 02-02-2003 01:17 PM

hmm, i think i really ^ my comp.....when i tried 2 do startx it says Error: Can't open display:0 and i cna't even get into kde, and if i try startx the sencond time it completely freeze my comp

Henry 02-02-2003 01:56 PM

ok.... most of the time when i do startx it won't let me go in and if i try to do anything that have 2 do with pkg like installpkg, upgradepkg, or pkgtool it gives me like a lot of weird numbers and then it freeze my comp......most of the time i can't go into kde, but like 1 out of 20 times i tried it work...just can't do the pkg stuff and no sound...... got any idea how 2 fix this?

Henry 02-02-2003 09:18 PM

ok i give ^, gonna redo my slackware

MasterC 02-02-2003 11:43 PM
