PXE/TFTP a kernel an initial root filesystem

Guys,

I am trying to setup a development environment for a embedded system project I am working on. I have a virtual development host (Fedora 17) that I am using to compile and build the various binaries for my embedded system. I have been able to succesfully boot a kernel from the tftp server (using syslinux) but am not able to get a root filesystem. What I am looking for is a way to send both the kernel and the root filesystem down to my device (which has no storage media at this point). I have done some searches and read about many ways to do this with a NFS server, but I want the embedded system to be self contained.

In essence I need help creating a root filesystem that I can send down via tftp to a embedded system with no storage.

Thanks,

Mike

I found this article describing using "RAM Disk" vs "NFS Mounts"

http://frank.harvard.edu/~coldwell/diskless/

More info about RAM Disks: http://eduardo-lago.blogspot.com/201...-diskless.html
