Put A Slackware Boot Option In GRUB
 

hi all,
i just changed from lilo taht came with slack back to my good old grub
but i cant get slack working in grub
my slack partiton is /dev/sda1 and ubuntu /dev/sda6 so how do i add the slack option in grub i use kgrubeditor as my tool of choice

please post the lilo config for slack

if your using grub from ubuntu, not all grubs will boot slack because of the way slack formats an ext3 partition. If so you can rerun lilo from your slack install disk and install lilo to your slack root partition. then edit your menu.lst to chainload into the slack partition.

How Do I Do That Cos I Have Never Used LILO Before And How Do I Reinstalll Lilo/?

reboot your slack one disk and go back into setup.
select the partition your slack is on that setup ask to install to but do not format.
cancel all other items till you get back to the main setup menu. select configure and select no or cancel until you get to the lilo option. when it ask you where to install lilo select the root partition, not mbr. after lilo installes select no and cancel until you get back to the main setup menu and exit out

after lilo is reinstalled edit your menu.lst in ubuntu

title slackware
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1

this is assuming that slack is on the first partition of your first harddrive

sorry i dont understand how do i cancel it all and that?
i tried running liilo from the slack disc but it says it wasnt found

does grub or lilo need to be the active mbr here cos i have lilo on it but grub has been installed over it

wait i think it is working cos i desellected installing everything and i didnt formant the old slack / and it asked me about lilo and i did it so i think i fixed it

run setup just like you did when you installed slack. after you select your install to partition, but do not format, when it ask do you want select any other partition either hit the cancel button or tab down to "done adding partitions" and click ok. then when the setup program goes into install packages hit the cancel button until you back to the main menu. select configure system. it will ask you if you want to do this select yes. the program will the start regenerating fonts. then what ever option comes up next, I think it's making a usb boot, hit cancel. until you come to the install lilo part. use the simple method and select install to root partiton. after that you don't need to rerun of the other options. when it ask you if you want to rewrite your fstab select no.

ive got it working now but how do i add ubuntu into lilo?

in slack edit /etc/lilo to add ubuntu, then at a prompt
#lilo
not sure what the entries will be but the format will be the same as the slackware entry
