PROFTP User Account Problems

Hi all, just want a little help on this problem I am having with PROFTP, i can't figure out what to do. I have read the documentation on the PROFTP site but it's a bit too much and I don't really understand it

Ok, at the moment, I have a few users who log into the server. I have set this up so that they can only browse inside their home directories by using DefaultRoot ~ within some Virtual Host tags. THis seems to be working fine. The problem is that I need to be able to let one of the users access the /var/www/htdocs folder so that I can upload things for the webserver. But I don't want the other users to be able to see this folder. Is there any way of doing this or do I have to let the user see the whole drive?

If this is not possible, is it easy to change the htdocs folder so that it is inside the home folder of the user?

Thanks for any help!

You can't use a symbolic link for this... you have to mount that directory into the user's home directory. I'm not sure, but I think I read that this is only supported by kernels 2.4+.

So, you would use the following command:

mount --bind /var/www/htdocs /home/username/www

Of course, replace "home/username" with the user's home directory, and be sure that the www directory exists in their home directory before trying to mount.

Thanks, much appreciated. There is another thing that I did to get it work which was to set the owner and group to the username of the account you are using. Otherwise it only lets you see the files and not alter them. Thanks again!
