/proc replaced by /sys in 2.6?

Is it true that the /proc filesystem has been replaced by the /sys filesystem in the 2.6 kernel? Proc is no more?

Not exactly. /proc lives on however it is (slowly) being reverted to its original purpose of showing process information as opposed to the tons of arbitrary status information in 101 different formats. The intent is for /sys to provide much of the information which /proc used to provide but in a much more structured form (e.g. /sys/class/net will show you your network interfaces with each directory having info about the particular interface) and with a simpler API. It already supplies much information however most (if not all?) of the information that used to be shown in /proc is still there and most likely will be for some time yet.
