Problems with my machine - Commands not running.. "cannot execute binary file"

Hi all,

I'm having an issue on my machine. Fedora 14.

At least today, when ever i try to run certain commands i get the following show up.

-bash: /bin/mv: cannot execute binary file

I've looked in the /bin/ folder and it looks like several files are missing.

mv, bash, more etc..

Don't believe i have done anything to remove this either. I've checked through my history as much as i can but can't see anything.

I've got access to another linux distro but not the same as my own so i can get a copy of the files if required.

you probably deleted them. if they are not there then you are practically hosed.

That is unusual, I would backup your important stuff and the check the HDD using a SMART long test using either smartctl or the manufacturer utils. These CDs may help in this:

I agree, I would back up all of your important files and then do a reinstall of your OS. But backing up your files is key!
