problems with hdparm
hi anybody,
i've got a problem using hdparm. I want to shutdown my harddrive in a router running debian using hdparm. computer is running for months practically doing nothing. But whenever i shutdown the hardrive it comes back online. I guess it has something to do with the syslog. If anybody knows a way to do so... to permanently turn off the hardrive, i don't care if some of the syslog entries may get lost. it's a PII 350 with plenty ram. now if someone is going to tell me to redirect th loggin to a ramdisk or turn off logging and swap than please also tell me how. thanks for your help malifub |
If you can't turn off the power, is it not likely to be the power management options the kernel was compiled with? Try recompiling with some more APM and ACPI options enabled.

to turn off swap:
swapoff /dev/hdXx |
