problems when rebooting (fsck used)
I am continually getting filesystem errors when I reboot.
Typically, I then have the use the fsck command, normally using the format fsck -y / Watching the screen, then reports: Error reading block (number here) (Attrempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read) while doing inode scan. Block bitmap differences: - (number - number) Free blocks count wrong for group #number (number, counterd=number). number/number files(-.3% non-contiguous), number/number blocks What could be causing this, I see no real problems when the box is up and running, but only after doing a reboot or in the case of power failure, but the later I would accept, but when I am closing down the system correctly, this does seem strange. All comments appreciated... |
I was toying around with RH 7.2 on
my notebook almost a year ago, and had the very problem... even after a clean shutdown it forced fsck every time. After the umpteenth time that the box decided not to continue booting and I had to reformat /home I moved on to Slackware ... :} Happy ever since ;) Cheers, Tink |
overactive fsck
I had this problem once. It turned out to be that my root file system was not being dismounted correctly during shutdown due to a wierd and correctable problem in fstab.
I suggest you watch your shutdown carefully, looking for shutdown errors. |
sounds like something isn't being unmounted correctly.
