I am trying to configure a box to autologin ( suse9.3 with Windows Maker
only)

Earlier Suse 8.2 devices we build ( only with twm) we added the following line to the end of the /etc/inittab file :

xi:5:respawn:su -l -c startx USERID

and that worked fine.

I tried adding the same line to the /etc/inittab on the Suse 9.3 box &
the autologin doesn't start & I get a message on the screen like this :

Fatal Server Error:
Server is already active for display 0

I understand that some other file is starting X but what file? I tried
to view the boot.msg file for some clue but found nothing.

I also tried to change /etc/sysconfig file but have no option there for DISPLAYMANAGER_AUTOLOGIN

ANy ideas which file I have to add the respawn line to to have it
autologin? Or can I just add the
DISPLAYMANAGER_AUTOLOGIN to the sysconfig file & do it there?

For what it is worth, I tried to add the displaymanager autologin feature under sysconfig & nothing changed. I also changed the display manager to bot KDM & Gdm & then tried to change the sysconfig & still no auto log in option.
