Problems mounting music Cd-roms

I am using Slackware 9.0 and I am trying to mount a music cd but when I type the command : mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom/ I get the message :

/dev/hdc : Input/output error
mount : block device /dev/hdc is write-protected, mounting read-only
/dev/hdc : Input/output error
mount : you must specify the filesystem type

I looked throught the man pages for mount but I cannot find the correct fs type...
Could somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Burner

You don't need to mount music CD's. You can either chmod 666 /dev/hdc or add yourself to the disk group and you should be able to play CD's with xmms etc.

Have you tried just typing:

mount cdrom

that usually works for me... similarly when you're done:

eject cdrom

sometimes the most simple answers are the hardest to find.

In xmms just go to Play File select the /mnt/cdrom directory and you should see a list of tracks.

No problem. Have you tried to use the ALSA output driver in xmms? Maybe there'll be less static.
