Problem with VideoCard ?

Hello,

I'm running a Red Hat Linux 7.1 on a i686, Celeron Pentium II, with 128 ram, 4 GB hard disk.

I opted for the KDE gui.

There's one problem: When I DRAG any file, a big black smudge appears on the screen, moving with the mouse (feels like I'm painting).

My video card is a VGA (not sure) built-in with my motherboard, and memory is 4mb ram.

But why does the smudge not appear when I'm inside, let's say Konqeror, and I click and drag a link ?!??!!

Is it a KDE problem.

And hey, there should be a message board for bug report.

Regards,
A.A

You need to try and find out what your hardware is so you can see if you are using the right X server© Maybe run Xconfigure and try some different settings©

You may also try searching for mouse problems, in forums or web search©

I have a similar problem. My only solution is to stay away from KDE. Try using GNOME. No black smuges!

I did some research at the KDE sight. It appears that quite a few people have reported the same problem. The official word is that it is an X problem having somethig to do with SiS video. It's funny that GNOME doesn't have this X problem.

So the story goes: KDE says it's an X problem and they won't fix anything. The X people say "It's not us, GNOME works fine" and they don't fix anything. So people with integrated video don't use KDE.

I hope the KDE people get the message.

Good luck!

Joe

Intergrated SiS has always been a bit dodgy, its got more to do with SiS not disclosing all the hardware specs than anything else. KDE do not code for video, nor do gnome so blaming either of them for bad video performance is not the answer. Besides intergrated video blows and 4mb intergrated video blows bigtime.
