Hello,
I've installed my machine with Debian 2.6.8-2-386 kernel, before I installed the new system, my cd-rom drive was attached to the second IDE controller. After the installation was completed successfully, I removed the CD-Rom from my system and attached a new harddisk to the secondary controller.
When I bootup my system, the harddisk gets detected
Quote:
server:~# dmesg | grep hdc
ide1: BM-DMA at 0xfc08-0xfc0f, BIOS settings: hdc:pio, hdd:pio
hdc: WDC WD2500JB-00REA0, ATA DISK drive
hdc: max request size: 1024KiB
hdc: 488397168 sectors (250059 MB) w/8192KiB Cache, CHS=30401/255/63, UDMA(100)

I did format my disk with ext3 (cfdisk, mkfs.ext3) filesystem, and still no problem occurs. While configuring my Debian system with Webmin, I did take a look at the Partition Manager. It appears HDC does not get detected by Webmin. I thought it would be a bug in Webmin.
But after that I decided to setup my system with LVM. When I tried to configure a volume group the following error appears:
Quote:
server:~# pvcreate /dev/hdc
Device /dev/hdc not found.

I tried to troubleshoot this problem, and changed my setup of Grub bootloader. Because HDC was not listed in /boot/grub/device.map. Now my device.map looks like this:
Quote:
server:~# cat /boot/grub/device.map
(hd0) /dev/hda
(hd1) /dev/hdb
(hd2) /dev/hdd
(hd3) /dev/hde
(hd4) /dev/hdf
(hd5) /dev/hdg
(hd6) /dev/hdh
(hd7) /dev/hdc
|
I've added the last line.
After a reboot my system, still does not recognize my harddisk, I can't create a Volume Group with LVM, and it still does not get detected by the partition manager in Webmin.
Please help me out,
thanks in advance.
