problem with the mic settings in Fedora core 6

Hi everyone

I have installed audacity for voice ecording in Fedora core 6[GNOME]...
In the voice control i have increased the volume for the mic
Now iam hearing my voice from the speakkers when i speak
I dont want to hear my voice when i speak ......!!!!!!!
Can any one help me to overcome this problem??

I recorded my voice and exported it to mp3 file
the mp3 file is blank ....
nothing got recorderd in it

I am unable to record my voice in audacity???
Please tell me the procedure to record in audacity
