problem with syntax in ps -aux

Hi why i receive the following syntax problem?
akroneiro:/home/alaios/Documents/Downloads/suse 10/Last.fm_Client_1.0.0b # ps -aux | grep kaffeine
Warning: bad ps syntax, perhaps a bogus '-'? See
alaios    3632  0.0  0.0 140792   900 ?        D    12:08   0:01 kaffeine
root      9188  0.0  0.0   2760   712 pts/1    S+   14:26   0:00 grep kaffeine

I have the same on a linux machine, but why you use -aux and not only aux?
