problem with normal booting

Hi all,
I have both windows and linux in my system and boot using grub with manually entering the root, kernel and initrd specs.
i made a mistake altering my partition table using fdisk. deleted a few partitions and added some. that actually changed the partition table. my swap file was earlier @ /dev/hda6 now its on /dev/hda7. and the root was at /dev/hda7, now @ /dev/hda8. on reboot with new specs it gets stuck and directs me to the maintanence mode. i tried correcting the /etc/fstab, but its opening only in read-only mode.

any way out of this.

thanks so much

So is there anymore information on the error it is giving that is directing you to the maintenance mode?

Hi,

Try remounting the filesystem in Read/Write Mode and then edit the fstab file

Something like "mount -t ext3 /dev/hda1 /mnt/mymount -o remount,rw" ; assuming you have ext3 and the parition is hda1.

Cheers
Joe

1.) boot to a live CD.

2.) Run FSCK on Filesystem

3.) Mount Filesystem Read-Write

4.) Edit file.

5.) Reboot
