Question Problem with MySQL

Hi everyone!

I am using CentOS 4.4 and installed mysql(4.1) on it.
My problem is the default database "mysql" doesn't show up on the table of databases. I can see the "test" database but not "mysql" database.

I have tried to log in as "root" but the mysql doesn't accept, since there is no root user recogonized by mysql.

My problem right now how to add the databse "mysql" to databases! I have tried to uninstall and install the mysql but no clue.

PS: I don't want to update mysql (4.1) to version (5).

Any help will be very appreciated!
Thanks in advance

cheers,

Are you actually creating any type of root login for mysql after the installation? If not, by default root has no password, simply type "mysql" and it should log you in with full access and you should see both the mysql and test databases. Sounds to me like your logging in with just your regular user that only has default access to test.

drop the test database and setup some actual logins/passwords with privileges is always the first step.

Thanks for your reply.
No I didn't create any type of root login for mysql after the installation.

As normal user, when I type mysql, I have full access as you mentioned in a way that I can see only "test" database.

As root user when I write, mysql
the follwoing error is displayed:

EROOR 1045 (28000): Acess denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

Thanks for your reply,

I found the solution:

mysql -u root -p
Password: (Here I didn't know that the password by default is mysql)

mysql > show databases;
------------
Database

mysql
test
-----------

-----------------------
Many thanks.
