Problem with ICMP rights


Have just installed peanut (s'cool, just a cutdown RH)

But, when logged in as me I can't use ping/ traceroute 'cos I can't send ICMP packets.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

Try:
# chmod 755 `type -p ping `

Hope that helps ...

Nope, still get:

"ping: icmp open socket: Operation not permitted"

Ops, I forgot the suid, try:

# chmod +s `type -p ping`

Ginving suid to a application, is to run the application every time as root, using his privileges. Usualy ping has that privilege to use icmp ....
