problem with hald and a custom kernel

I'm currently running debian sarge and a debian kernel image (2.6.8-2-k7).

I compiled a custom kernel by downloading the debian kernel-source-package. I used the config-file of the debian kernel (config-2.6.8-2-k7), so I expected the custom kernel to behave exactly as the debian kernel.
However, on botup it displays:
Code:

Starting Hardware abstraction layer: 11:45:45.233 [W] hald.c:302:
Your kernel does not support capabilities; some features will not be available.

Why is my 'homemade' kernel different from the debian kernel-image?

I have the same problem. I am using Debian Sarge and compiled a custom kernel using the config file in boot (config-2.6.8-3-686). Do you know the answer in the meantime (as nobody has replied to your post yet)?

Best wishes,
Alexander
