problem with Gaim sounds.

Hi,
I've run into this problem that I'm finding difficulty in resolving.
With Gaim 0.62 (the latest version) on RH8,I can't get any sound except the default 'beep'.When I try nad choose other sounds for events in the preferences, I can choose another .wav but it will only play the default 'beep' sound.

Does anyone have a solution?

cheers
Ludwig

PS I have installed the libao , libao-devel audiofile-devel and audiofile.

Ok,...I found a solution to this.
One needs to set sound method to 'ESD'

Don't know what it is,but it works.

Sorry to waste people's time.

Yes, this is hardly intuitive. It should work if it's set to "auto" as well.

eSound FYI is a sound mixing daemon, this whole mess will be eliminated some time next year when ALSA with dmix rolls around, or so I'm told
