problem wid filesystem(help urgently)

sir, wen i booth the system it shows filesystem error,and wen fsck is run.. it takes me to the single user prompt. than wen i again run takes too much of time and get resrted again,i chked that my etc,initrd all directory are fine..kindly help how can i reapir my file system

You need to post more specific information--ie what distribution you are using, exact error messages, etc.

help needed

sir the problem i m havinf firstly it was a file system error,than i run fsck,than after 70 % it stops, now then wen i try to boot into single user mode.. again file system chk is enforced,and it quits after 70 %, if i press ctrl+c, than it moves on and then i get error of respaning...............kinldly help me .... , each time i boot i get diff problem... but strted wid file system error

Does it actually stop at 70%, or just slow down? How long have you permitted fsck to run?

Have you run smartmontools and badblocks to check for hardware problems with the disk? Memtest86 to rule out memory issues?

sir i let it to be complete, but after 70 % first it slow down and then abort, sir i have not used the tools u told me in previous post like smartmontools ,and badblocks.. kinldy elobrate those features i m using redhat 9...,as i m newbie never used such comands.. plz help.. thank you for ur concern
