Question problem while installing Linux distros

Hello. I've been trying to install Linux in my machine for a while now.. and every time I get an error (kernel panic).
The last time I tried kali linux and it wasn't a success. now am trying Ubuntu and the same error appears.
end kernel panic-not syncing:attempting to kill init! exit code=0000000009
my machine is a HP Compaq dc5800 small form factor.
I a sure the bootable os is not the problem because when I try installing in another machine (dell) it boots perfectly.
initially the pc was running Windows 7.

How are you creating the bootable media?
Can you boot into a live session?

The bootable os so far can't be proven to be good or bad just because it booted another system.

What your panic might mean is that you attempted to install linux once and it failed maybe. (wild guess)

I'd boot to some live media and clear that hard drive.

If I were using a burner to make a new disc then I'd set the burner to slowest speeds burn. I'd md5 the checksum. There is a fault in the way some burners read disc's. There is a burn issue where some spots in disc are open while waiting for data. Some readers don't like that.

If I had access to a spare usb flash then I'd dd (or follow distro way) to make a bootable usb.

Do you mean that this happens while you (try to) boot the USB stick?
(or after you complete the install from USB to hdd?)

https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php?topic=8921.0 (bios upd)

Did you *install Kali to the hard-drive*??
IF so, *maybe* you are accidentally booting the hdd instead of the USB.

p.s. I forgot to say: Welcome to LQ!!!

I use yumi multi boot to create bootable flash drive. I can't even boot to a live session.

You are not the first one with such a problem. I had an old laptop long time ago and never could install any version of Fedora on it, despite that laptop was absolutely ok with any other distros.

I would suggest you to install Slackware. However, if Ubuntu is preferable, then try its mini.iso

https://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/ubun...tboot/mini.iso

It should work. If not, then you would need "debootstrap"

Ubuntu website recommends using Rufus.
