Unhappy Problem when making an installation boot CDROM...

Hi all,

I'm trying to install RH9 on a laptop with no floppy support, but it can boot from CDROM, so I'm trying to make an installation BOOT CDROM.

I have followed the instructions on redhat's webpage and manual on how to do it, but I get a segmentation fault during the process. Here's a copy of what happens:

[root@desktop tempcopy]# mkisofs -o file.iso -b isolinux.bin -c boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -R -J -v -T isolinux/
mkisofs 2.0 (i686-pc-linux-gnu)
Scanning isolinux/

Segmentation fault

I have no idea why it's doing that, and I haven't been able to find any answers pertaining this error.

Also, if I cannot make an installation CDROM, can I burn the 3 iso images I downloaded for RH9 onto CDs and would they be bootable afterwards?

TIA for your help.

Regards,
Alf829

Ofcourse. Just burn the iso images and you are ready to go. You can boot right up from those cd's and install. I always do that

Thanks for the info LinuxLala

I wasn't going to the RH9 onto CDs, but it looks like I won't have a choice now...unless I manage to find an iso image of the redhat linux boot Cd

Cheers,

The first iso image you download from Red Hat is a bootable CD specifically for install. The second is for many of the packages needed, and the third is mostly for international packages, although there may be some that you will get from there, depending on the choices you make during install. Just download the ISOs marked disk 1, disk 2, and disk 3, burn them as images to CDs, (at 8x or less). The names of the ISOs you need to download are: shrike-i386-disc1.iso, shrike-i386-disc2.iso, and shrike-i386-disc3.iso. These are for 9.0. Do not download the ones called SRPMS! If you want the equivalent of 10.0, go to Fedora and download the ones with "yarrow" in the name (not SRPMS!). Then set your bios to boot from CD, insert the first cd and reboot. The Anaconda installer will start. Answer the question and make your choices, and you will have a Red Hat system in less than an hour...
