problem w/ printer
 

I just installed LINUX 7.3 (Red Hat) with the help of a friend/guru. But I'm having problems getting my printer, an Epson Stylus 1280, to work properly. My friend hasn't been able to figure out what the problem is, so am trying to gain solution via help from this website. I followed the "printconf-gui" instructions found in a book "Red Hat Linux 7.3 Secrets" in the chapter on printer setup. It seems like that everything should now work, but attempts to send a small text file to the printer as a test only generates a printout of what appears to be PostScript info. The output looks like:

%!PS-Adobe-2.0
%%DocumentFonts: Courier Times-Bold
%%Title: <stdin> (mpages)
....
...

and this continues for several pages until I turn off printer to keep from wasting paper! The printer does have PostScript capabilities built in, and I used the "lp" command to send the test file. I've checked the /var/log/messages and /etc/printcap files for what should be in them, according to the "..Secrets" book. Can someone help me with getting my printer to function properly. Thanx!!!!!
