problem to set up internet connect through modem using Suse 8.2


I installed Suse 8.2 in my PC (AMD Althlon (tm) XP 1800+1.5GHz, 512, 80 GB, dual boot with Windows XP). And I have a 326X V.34 series modem (Motorala Codex). I tried to follow the instruction to configure the modem as follows.

YaST2 control center --- Network Devices --- Modem

After I set all these, I dialed up the connection, but it didn't work. I checked the view log file as follows.

SuSE Meta pppd (smpppd-ifcfg), Version 1.00 on linux.
We are disconnected.

We are connecting.

So does anyone can help my modem problem? Thank in advance.

hmmm ... try this :

login as root

open xterm/console

#wvdial ISP

where ISP is ur ISP name in the configuration.

instead of /dev/modem try /dev/ttyS0 or /dev/ttyS1.

Install kppp from one of your cd's,it is a lot easier to set up.
