problem removing file

I backed up my home folder a bit ago and now I'm trying to remove the backup from my root user I get an error with the rm command of "cannot lstat" "Input/output error" and then after that it makes the drive read only and I have to unmount and mount again to make it writeable but I still can't remove that file. any help would be greatly appreciated.

fixed

ran e2fsck, had to do it manually so after 3 hours of hitting yes or enter for default yes, and about 1000 corruptions later, everything is fine now.
