Problem of installing YDL 5.0 in PS3
 


Hi all, i've downloaded a Yellow Dog Linux 5.0 ISO file and burnt as an image DVD+RW to install in the Playstation 3, but when it started kboot, the following error existed:

Kboot:
UDF-fs: No VRS found
get memory ranges:1

then, the Playstation 3 shut down automatically.


i'm just a new user of linux, anyone can help me to solve this problem in simple way ? Thanks:)

Couple of things. Firstly try burning to a regular DVD, not an RW. Secondly make sure the DVD is in your PS3 before you get to this point of the installation. If that doesn't work I have no idea what's going on.

UDF-fs is a type of filesystem, one that is used on DVDs (all I tried anyway); and I found this about the no-vrs part :

Upon seeing this, all I can recommend is the same as rkotecha.

initally, i wonder the ISO file got error, but i've checked with a software called "md5sum" which let me check the ISO file is correct or not. and it is ckecked OK!
until now, i have got the same problem even i try to burn DVD+R (not Rewritable), and i had copied the ISO file to an external harddisk and let my friend help me burn, but also failed.

i nearly give up now, anybody can give me a helping hand to solve the problem?
is there any settings i missed to burn the ISO file ?
or my PS3 had its internal problem ?

Also, have you re-downloaded the image? Sometimes thats the key; although seeing you used MD5, I doubt ii. I don't have a PS3, so I don't really know how it works/configures.

The bottom line is that your PS3 is saying that it doesn't understand the file system burned on the DVD you've inserted. My best guess is that you may have downloaded the wrong ISO file. Are you sure you downloaded Yellow Dog 5.0 for the PS3. If you downloaded the version for i386 or some other variant then it's not going to work.

man this is really getting on my nerves
it says
"leasing fail"
no vn
no lease failing

any help would be greatly apreciated

hi there,

this may sound stupid lol but normal composite connection is to low for the setup so you need HD TV (HDMI)

So is your PS3 connected to a Hi Def TV(HDMI port) if not when it says kboot just press tap and choose Install Text

I think this means it failed to get an IP address from your DHCP Server (Linksys/DLink Router or whatever you have.)

Note: Last time I checked no PS3 Linux "distro" (hope that's the right term) is able to pick up and configure the PS3's built in WiFi. You need a direct connection to the Network or buy one of those cheap "bridges" (WiFi gaming adapter). Motorola used to sell them for CDN$30

Yeah i got a 50" vizio plasma TV with HDMI hooked up

ahh so i have to be connected at the time i am installing it cause yea im using wi-fi right now and ill use direct connect with an rj-45 and see haw that works
