Problem installing Ubuntu...plz help

while trying to install ubuntu 6.06, Im encountering the following problem:

Install the Base System
Base System Installation Error
The debootstrap program exited with an error( return value 1)
Check /var/log/syslog or see virtual console 4 for details.

Any suggestions as to what should be done?

Virtual Console 4 should be Alt-Ctrl-F4.

Use the 'check CD' option. It takes awhile, but eliminates the possibility of a bad CD.
