Problem after compiling the kernel
As my netword adapter is not a module supported by default, I have recompiled the kernel and add the module.
I have disabled a lot of things not needed but I think I made a mistake :
After compiling the kernel the system halt here :
VP_IDE: detected chipset, but not compiled in !
VP_IDE: chipset revision 6
VP_IDE: not 100% native mode : will probe irq later
ide0: BM-DMA ... hda: DMA, hdb: DMA
ide1: BM-DMA ... hdc: DMA, hdd: pio
I don't know what can cause this error, do you have an idea ?
Thanks in advance.

obviously you forgot or disabled something you need.
I suggest you somehow get your hands on the .config file of the first kernel, before you recompiled, and use that as a base, then go through menuconfig and recompile again. I had a similar problem, and i couldnt figure it out, my sustem would always halt with new kernels. Then Taz.devil sent me his .config file which i used as a base to start from, and now it works, later i figured it was some hidden option somewhere in IDE support low level drivers blah, blah, blah...
Anyway get your hands on a .config of a working kernel and use that to start from.

Thanks NSKL, I managed to solve my problem.
But now I have another problem with my modules & the kernel :
My network adapter module : fealnx.o
# cd /usr/src/linux-2.4.18-14/drivers/net
# insmod fealnx.o
fealnx.o : Couldn't find the kernel version the module was compiled for.
When I try another module I get the same error.
I have enabled this module to run with the kernel and what I get is "I don't know if this module is compiled for me or not". I don't understand why the kernel don't know this.
Thanks in advance

if the module is "include" in the kernel, you don't need to modprobe/insmod.
it's suppose to be already loaded inside your kernel.
