Question Printing from Linux to shared printer on Windows XP

I have configured my Linux machine (gOS 2) to print to a shared HP printer on a Windows XP machine. CUPS sees the printer and whenever I print, something shows up in the XP queue; however, the printer does nothing but make a few noises and keeps flashing the power button as though it was receiving data forever. I have tried both foomatic and HP drivers, but no luck. Looking at the XP spool folder, print jobs from Linux are identified as flash documents. This appears to be the same problem expressed in http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=115968 in the networking forum in 2003, but without resolution there. Does anyone here have an idea what is wrong? Print jobs originating from the XP machine or another networked Windows machine are fine.

What printer are you using? Here is an article that might be able to help, especially the debugging section:

http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-mini/...-Printing.html

Hope this helps.

Cool This worked for me

http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/...d_from_Windows

My printer is a 4200 series all-in-one using hpzsnt12 rather than 10, but making that adjustment these instructions worked for me and I am now printing happily from both network and local machines.

There are lots of unanswered posts in various forums describing this problem, so I hope that someone will benefit from repeating the above link here. Many thanks to munstah for posting the answer, and to mozzwald at ubuntuforums.org for posting the link that I eventually found.
