Printing from Linux Desktop/Server to Windows Print Server without Authentication?

All -

I can run smbclient from a RedHat6 desktop or server to get a list of printers shared on our Windows
print server; and I can print to a printer there using SMB if I give it my username and password in
the popup box on a graphical desktop. There's no popup or anything for authentication if I use the
"lp" command from the command line.

What I'd like to be able to do is print from the command line or GUI to the Windows print server and
NOT have to authenticate. I've had the Windows administrator enable both IPP and LPD on the print server.

So far, after adding a printer using lpd://<server>/<printer> and cupsenable, all I get is a
message in lpstat that it's "contacting the printer" and the file never prints.

Our desktops and servers authenticate to Active Directory via Centrify.

I've been looking for several days now online, but can't seem to find a recent coherent document on how
to set all this up.

Thanks for any help.

There is a way to include the windows credentials in the CUPS information for the printer. I used to do it, but that Windows computer long ago went to the happy recycling grounds.

The link I used to set it up has disappeared from the net, but I found this one, which is not as step-by-step, but might help: http://serverfault.com/questions/101...worked-printer

I would try going into the CUPS administration page by entering http://localhost:631 into a web browser and change the device URI for the printer to
Code:
smb://<username>:<password>@<server>/<printer>

Ok, I was able to get this working. Turns out the Windows server administrator hadn't actually
installed the LPD service when he thought he did. Once he did that, I was able to set up a
printer and get it working without needing user authentication.

Thanks for the suggestions.
