Print quality on faxes?
 

My question is about the print quality of faxes.
I created a document with Openoffice with font: 'Times New Roman' and exported
it as pdf file. I sent it as a fax through faxzero (a server on
the internt) http://faxzero.com/to a copy/print
center: Staples
The quality wasn't as good as I expected. Should the quality of faxes be
the same as using a printer? I want to send resumes, so I would like a
better font. I'm not familiar with faxes so I need some help. Is this a
problem with faxzero, the copy/print center, or with faxes in general. Would using a fax machine help?

Fax machines are typically lower resolution, and differ on horizontal and vertical -- so, e.g. about 200 horizontal and about 100 vertical. The point was to minimize the amount of data that had to be transmitted over telephone lines. Once that has been standardized and you have a worldwide network of fax machines, it is more difficult to change. And there is less gain from changing it anyway.

Since you have your resume in pdf format, send it by email or post it on a personal web site that you aim at job hunting. The recipient can read it on their screen, send it to other members of their company/organization, or print it out on a laser printer.

Instead of Times New Roman, you might want to use a Sans-serif font, such as Arial or Verdana, because they works better in low resolution printing.
