"Pretty" Network Monitor
Hi All,
This may sound like a damn silly question, but does anyone know of an ethernet network monitor with a pretty ncurses output.
Basically, ive buily a box for the sole purpose of being an NFS server. The box is running slackware with no X.
In the front of this tower case im planning on mounting a small colour VGA monitor and a PS/2 keyboard socket on the front for configuration purposes.
However when this box is idle, a blinking cursor would look pretty damn boring - so i was thinking of putting a network monitor on there with some kind of graphical output (it doenst even have to mean much!!)
Can anyone suggest anything which would look good.
Thanks in Advance.

Hmm, that sounds like a pretty nifty idea. If I had a similar setup, I might try to have some output related to netstat.
I'll bet it wouldnt be too hard to write a script that would query your status and pipe a portion of the output to a custom output line in the terminal. I might actually try making such a script for my server I will be setting up.
BTW, if you go to google and search for "ncurses network monitor" there are a few results that look pretty good.
"ncurses-based IP LAN monitor that generates various network
statistics"

just taking a little look at big brother now, it looks good.
Thanks for the reponses, ive had to change the boxes protocol to Samba from NFS because of performance & compatibility issues with the Windows clients, (most of the machines its gonna be serving are windows)
The machine is starting to look really good, ive moved it out of a pc case and moved it into a project box (rack mount width ). I'll host some pictures of it soon so anyone interested can take a look
