Pre-processor to filter email on pop3 server prior to download

Hello
I am looking for a program that will act as a pre-processor to my mail program that can identify most spam and delete it from the server before my e-mail program has to deal with it. I know there is mailwasher, but I don't want to use Wine to enable it and was just wondering if there was a Linux native program that would do the same thing.
Any help or suggestions are welcome.
- Andy

I use mailfilter for that. It's easy to use with fetchmail (using the preconnect option). However, it doesn't come close to spamassasin when it comes to identifing spam. So I have that running locally as well to get rid off the stuff that mailfilter failed to recognize.
