Postmaster does not start

Hello. I hope someone can help.....
I had to shut down our Linux server on the week end due to an advised power outage.
this morning, I started the server with no problems except that I was unable to get postgre Sql to start up. The message I get is :
Starting PostgreSQLpg_ctl: Postmaster does not start. Failed

Any words of advise?
Thank you

No advice, just questions ...

What version of Linux, which version of Postgres, and how
is that startup invoked? What logging-settings do you have
in your postgresql.conf?

Cheers,
Tink

P.S.: Hint: Next time start with more info to begin with, makes everyones
life easier and quick answers more likely.
