Man, can someone please explain why people seem to *like* XFCE, i know i'm in stuck record teritory, but it's horrible! why on earth would you WANT a cde clone when everyone knows that cde is crap??!!
if anyones interested who didn't know, Sun have offically dumped CDE forever in favour of GNOME. hurrah. now just dump XFCE for blackbox... even if it's a bit linked with kde at times.
Well, KDE was my first Window manager in any *nix system I've ever tried, so I can't say I've really known much about CDE. I've used both KDE, GNOME and Window Maker for a while. KDE I found, was slow at times, and it's utilities usually crashed as much as windows programs, though I still use the utils at times. GNOME I found, was overall better in performance and Utilties as KDE, but it wasn't as pretty or easy. When I found XFCE, I gave it a try and found it was simple, very simple. I make shortcuts in different menus and if I ever want my KDE or GNOME Menus, I simply left-click on the desktop to load my KDE and GNOME menus. It was also faster and is lower on resources. Not only that, but it provided something very similar to Window Maker which I liked, and that was how the icons are minimized and program support.
I'm sure this could be done with Blackbox, but I found the XFCE toolbar to be very easy and configurable.
Just my opinion, that's the great thing about Linux, everyone has a choice in Window Managers, no one has to have the same one, and have them just as unique as the person they are.
there seem to be quite a few people on this forum that use gnome and/or kde. so i got a question for you guys... why?
i never saw the appeal or kde or gnome, unless you actually like a windows style interface. so what are the advantages of gnome/kde? besides being the default wm.
