Possible to view program's configure compilation options

Just a quick question (hope this is the right forum):

Is it possible to view what the configure options were when a given program was compiled?

I would like to upgrade some software (compile it myself), but I want to make sure I don't break anything... in other words, I want to use the same or similar configure options that the existing software was originally compiled with.

I'm particularly interested in software originally installed via rpm.

Is it possible, and if so, how?
