POP3 failure

Hi! Running MDK 10.0 recently working to upgrade Perl and install Spamassassin with Postfix, total debacle so worked back to original settings/Perl etc...everything works except now my POP3 is not functioning, all I can find in daemon.error is:

xinetd 5700 bind failed (address allready in use (errno=98)). service = pop3-stream
xinetd 5700 Service pop3-stream failed to start and is deactivated

also when looking in mail.info says

can't open INBOX ( file /var/spool/name/username) not in valid mailbox format
login user=username no mailbox <----but all of these users have mailboxes!!
Error opening or locking inbix user : username

Thanks!

Re: POP3 failure

Do you get a connection when you telnet to the pop3-port (usually 110).
If so there is already a service listening on that port and you should get rid of this first.

The problem with the mail has to do with format you are using (mbx/mbox/maildir).

Postfix only supports maildir or mbox (... i believe.)

MBOX is the standard UNIX mailspool format.
maildir is an improved format to reduce locks, each mail has a separate file and a unique name
mbx is a format for IMAP

Followup

I deleted then re-created the user name and lo and behold everything works. I did read somewhere that Spamassassin can create something in the mailbox which corrupts it, and my user mailbox was reading 221 bytes with nothing identified in it. I am now back to full functionality, anyone else here of this?
